Man Held in Beating of Elderly Mother

WESTBORO — A Shrewsbury man, charged in the beating of his 83-year-old mother, was held without bail today in Westboro District Court, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Sean C. Connolly, 44, of 30 Cross St., Shrewsbury was charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 with injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife). Judge Robert B. Calagione continued the case to Dec. 21.

The victim, Paula H. Connolly of the same address, was transported to the University of Massachusetts-Memorial Hospital, University Campus in Worcester. She was suffering from multiple injuries.

Shrewsbury Police were dispatched to 30 Cross St., at 10:43 p.m. Monday for a report of an assault on an elderly female. Police found the victim with a bloody face and hands. After questioning the victim’s son, police arrested him.

The case remains under investigation by the State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and Shrewsbury Police.

Hunter Dies in Douglas Woods

DOUGLAS — Police are investigating the shooting death of a 56-year-old hunter whose body was found by other hunters in the woods off West Street, according to District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

The death appears to be non-suspicious, Mr. Early said.

Hunters found the body about 10:30 a.m. and called 911.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

The death is being investigated by State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office as well as State Police Crime Scene Services and Firearms Identification Section, state Environmental Police and Douglas Police.
